Adult Day Care Component

An Overview of the Adult Day Care Component

The adult day care component of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is available to licensed public, nonprofit, or for-profit institutions.  For-profit institutions can participate in the CACFP if at least 25 percent of the enrolled participants receive Title XIX (Medicaid) benefits for the month being claimed.

Eligible Centers must have a primary purpose of providing nonresidential day care to functionally impaired, disabled adults.  Centers must maintain an individual plan of care for every participant, and must provide a structured, comprehensive, community-based program of health, social and related support services.

Examples of adult day care facilities that may NOT participate are:

  • Sheltered workshops.
  • Vocational or substance abuse rehabilitation centers.
  • Social centers.
