WHAT: As part of the back-to-school events, visits to Eleanor Roosevelt High School and Lamont Elementary School will showcase two significant programs within the Prince George’s County Public Schools – STEM and Troops to Teachers. Both programs also demonstrate that Maryland’s public schools are ready for BRAC.

NOTE:
The visit to Eleanor Roosevelt High School will showcase the success of the school’s Science and Technology program (a STEM program). The program is a highly challenging four year curriculum which provides college level academic experiences in science, math, and technology. Eleanor Roosevelt is also the Science and Technology Center for the northern part of Prince Georges County. The school offers a wide array of courses ranging from Japanese I, Child Development, and Television Productions to Bio-Organic Chemistry, Calculus, and a variety of Technology Courses.
The visit to Lamont Elementary School will focus on the Troops to Teachers (TTT) program. TTT is a federal program established in 1994 and offers referral and placement assistance to qualified service members seeking new careers as public school teachers nationwide. This is an alternative certification program designed to help with the teacher shortage problem in Maryland.
