The Maryland State Department of Education’s Division of Library Development and Services announces that Catch the Reading Bug has caught the imagination of children throughout the State. The following is a list of the various events planned throughout the state to encourage young children and teens to read this summer and to discover the amazing world of bugs.
- Following the Catch the Reading Bug theme, the Walters Art Museum will present the Creepy Crawly Collections to the younger customers of the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped at the museum on July 12.
- Younger customers of the Montgomery County Public Libraries will be wiggling and giggling in an interactive story time, Crawling Critter Tales, with Diane Macklin, at the Wheaton library on July 24.
- Through her high-spirited fun and sometimes silly presentation, Tracy Eldridge performs a highly interactive program, Bugs Don’t Bug Me, featuring music, creative movement, stories, and make believe, at all the branches of the Carroll County Public Library during the month of July.
- Creating great rock music for kids, the band, Milkshake, will perform three outdoor concerts for Summer Reading Club members and their families and friends, one concert at three different locations of the Anne Arundel County Public Library.
- National award-winning storyteller, Gary Lloyd will invite young customers of the Harford County Public Library to Come Into My Parlor, Please, as he transforms Anasi, the African spider into fun filled story time in July.
- Allegany County Library in Western Maryland will host Derrick Bender, whose program, Bugs And More, shows that not all bugs are bad, with three program dates, July 2, July 3, and July 8, in various branches of the library.
- On the Eastern Shore, Worchester County Library hosts Magician Mike Rose, whose disappearing bugs will reappear in unusual places. Wicomico Public Library will meet author Micki Buck, whose story, Felipe the Fly, will encourage writers to pursue their craft.
Students may register for the Summer Reading Club at any Maryland Public Library. For more information visit the Maryland State Department of Education’s website at http://www.marylandpublicschools.org/MSDE/divisions/library/src. |
