Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Baltimore County Public Schools, Carroll County Board of Education, and Prince Georges County Board of Education; School Systems

- Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Baltimore County Public Schools, Carroll County’s Board of Education, and Prince Georges County’s Board of Education received Certificates of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting in 2004 from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

 

Baltimore County Public Schools

- Baltimore County led the statewide Black Saga competition – winning six of the top 10 rankings.  Rodgers Forge Elementary School in Towson placed first; followed in second place by Warren Elementary School in Cockeysville; third place by Westchester Elementary School in Catonsville; and fourth place squad from Cromwell Valley Elementary School in Towson.  In the middle school division, Sudbrook Middle Magnet in Pikesville placed third; followed in fourth place by Franklin Middle School in Reisterstown.  The academic competition, founded by Dr. Charles Christian, challenges students to answer more than 800 questions about Black history.

2007 Carson Scholars Fund Award Recipients

- Ten Carroll County public schools students were honored at the 2007 Carson Scholars Fund 11th Annual Awards Banquet.  The Carson Scholars Fund Inc. is a nonprofit charity founded in 1994 by Johns Hopkins pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson and his wife, Candy, to recognize students in grades 4-11 for outstanding academic achievement.  Students were presented with a certificate and personalized medal; their school received a trophy listing all of its Carson Scholars.  The winners included:

Comcast Parent Involvement Matters Award (PIMA) Winners

- The Parent Involvement Matters Award is the first state-wide award program of its kind in the nation. The award program recognizes parents, guardians, and parent groups for their exceptional work in support of Maryland public education. FCPS Community Agency School Services
Frederick County Public Schools
Nominated by Dr. Linda Burgee, Frederick County Schools Superintendent

 
- The FCPS Community Agency School Services program ranks first in the nation, winning the 2004 National Civic Star Award for successful school-community partnerships committed to increasing student achievement through strengthening families and building stronger communities. Located in each school feeder community, CASS is a collaborative outreach program that provides confidential support to families of children from birth to 18 years of age to ensure student achievement through access to needed services.

- Frederick County area schools announced their “Outstanding Scholar” Award recipients for 2007.  The award recipients maintained a 3.5 academic average and demonstrated commitment to excellence, both academic and personal, including service, character and leadership.  They include - David Wayne Canada, Jr., a senior, and Kimberly Marie Davison, a junior, at Frederick High School; Konstantinos Kostas Loukos, a senior, and Jennifer Grace Pinciotti, a junior, at Governor Thomas Johnson High School.

- Harford County Public Schools received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for high quality preparation of their 2004 budget.

  
Hearing Impaired Program Specialists

- The hearing-impaired program staff at Gwynns Falls Elementary goes above and beyond the challenges of their jobs and the extremely limited technology at their school to provide the best for their students. A supportive relationship between regular education teachers and the principal make the program a success and allow educators to mainstream hearing-impaired children quickly.
 

2007 Howard County Mathematics, Science and Technology Fair

- More than 450 middle and high school students in Howard County competed at The Mathematics, Science and Technology Fair.  The winners included:  Sarah Morrison, Atholton High School for Best Overall Mentored Project High School; Julia Thumel and Vincent Giannandrea, Wilde Lake High School for Best Overall Non-Mentored Project High School; Rushi Talati, River Hill High School for Dr. Lee Summerville Scholarship Award; Ashley Earp, Murray Hill Middle School, and Ben Eve, Hammond Middle School for Best Overall Middle School.
